For saying "I am from Nepal", German normally uses:

Ich komme aus Nepal.

Not:

❌ Ich bin aus Nepal.

kommen aus is the fixed A1 expression for stating where someone is from.

sprechen — to speak

PronounForm
ichspreche
dusprichst
er/sie/esspricht
wirsprechen
ihrsprecht

Examples:

3. Grammar Practiced

Basic statement — verb position 2

Basic structure:

Subject + conjugated verb + extra information

Examples:

Ich wohne in Nepal.
Meine Mutter arbeitet.
Meine Schwester lernt Deutsch.

Time-first word order

When a time expression comes first, the conjugated verb stays in position 2:

Am Montag arbeite ich.
Am Abend komme ich nach Hause.
Morgens trinke ich Wasser.
Am Wochenende kaufe ich ein.
Danach lerne ich Deutsch.

Pattern:

Time + Verb + Subject + ...

Important correction from today's practice:

❌ Danach ich lerne Deutsch.
✅ Danach lerne ich Deutsch.

4. Yes/No Questions

Structure:

Conjugated verb + subject + ... ?

Examples:

Sprichst du Deutsch?
Hast du einen Bruder?
Wohnst du in Nepal?
Lernst du Deutsch?
Arbeitest du am Montag?

All five were answered correctly.

5. W-Questions

Important question words:

GermanEnglish
werwho
waswhat
wowhere
woherwhere from
wohinwhere to
wannwhen
wiehow
warumwhy
wie vielhow much/how many

Important fixed A1 question chunks:

Wie heißt du? — What's your name?
Wo wohnst du? — Where do you live?
Woher kommst du? — Where are you from?
Warum lernst du Deutsch? — Why are you learning German?
Wann arbeitest du? — When do you work?

Common mistake corrected:

❌ Was heißt du?
✅ Wie heißt du?

6. Negation

nicht

Used to negate an action/statement:

Ich lerne nicht Deutsch.
Meine Mutter arbeitet nicht.
Ich spreche nicht Deutsch.

kein / keine / keinen

Used to negate nouns.

Examples:

Ich habe keinen Bruder.
Ich habe keine Schwester.

The user already knows the basic accusative pattern:

einen Bruder · eine Schwester
keinen Bruder · keine Schwester

7. Possessives — mein / meine

Basic pattern

mein

mein Vater · mein Bruder · mein Kind

meine

meine Mutter · meine Schwester · meine Familie · meine Eltern

Examples:

Meine Mutter wohnt in Nepal.
Mein Vater arbeitet.
Mein Bruder lernt Deutsch.
Meine Schwester spricht Englisch.
Meine Eltern wohnen in Nepal.

8. Possessives — sein / seine

sein = his

Basic A1 pattern

Noun typeForm
masculine singularsein
neuter singularsein
feminine singularseine
pluralseine

Examples:

sein Vater · sein Bruder · sein Kind
seine Mutter · seine Schwester · seine Eltern

Important concept learned today:

seine is not only feminine.

It is used with:

  • feminine singular nouns
  • plural nouns

Therefore:

seine Mutter = his mother
seine Eltern = his parents

And because Eltern is plural:

Seine Eltern wohnen in Nepal.

not:

❌ Seine Eltern wohnt in Nepal.

9. will + infinitive

We practiced:

will + infinitive at the end

Examples:

Ich will Deutsch lernen.
Ich will Deutsch sprechen.
Ich will arbeiten.
Ich will Wasser trinken.
Ich will einkaufen.

Pattern:

Ich will + ... + infinitive.

10. Personal Information Sentences

We practiced the basic A1 self-introduction structures:

Ich heiße Ajeet.
Ich komme aus Nepal.
Ich wohne in Nepal.
Ich spreche Deutsch.
Ich lerne Deutsch.
Ich arbeite.

Important distinction:

Ich komme aus Nepal. = I am from Nepal.
Ich bin in Nepal. = I am in Nepal.

📖 Day 1 Reading — "Ich heiße Ajeet"

Ich heiße Ajeet. Ich komme aus Nepal und wohne in Kathmandu. Ich lerne Deutsch, weil ich später in Deutschland arbeiten möchte. Mein Deutschkurs beginnt um neun Uhr. Ich spreche noch nicht sehr gut Deutsch, aber ich lerne jeden Tag. Am Abend lese ich kurze deutsche Texte.

Questions:

  1. Wie heißt die Person?
  2. Woher kommt Ajeet?
  3. Warum lernt er Deutsch?
  4. Wann beginnt der Kurs?
  5. Was macht er am Abend?

Important: Some words in this reading have not yet been formally taught, so they should be introduced before being expected in active production.

Study Rule

The user specifically wants:

Use only vocabulary I already know unless a new word is explicitly introduced first.

Therefore, future exercises should not unexpectedly introduce unknown vocabulary.

New vocabulary should be taught first, preferably with:

noun → article → plural → English → example sentence

For verbs:

verb → ich / du / er-sie-es → meaning → example

Session Start

August 13, 2026 — 20:30 PM

This file represents everything covered in the current Day 1 session up to the present point.

German A1 — Study Update

August 13, 2026

  • Study Plan: German A1 — 28-Day Study Plan
  • Day: 1 — Restart + Self-Introduction
  • Focus: Grammar & Output Drill
  • Speaking: Skipped for now
  • Status: Day 1 grammar/output completed

1. Today's Main Grammar Practice

Today we practiced transforming German sentences into:

  1. Statement
  2. Ja/Nein question
  3. Negative sentence
  4. Time-first sentence
  5. weil sentence

The main goal was to become comfortable with German word order.

2. Basic Statement — Verb Position 2

Basic German statement structure:

Subject + conjugated verb + extra information

Examples:

Ich arbeite am Nachmittag.
Deine Schwester lernt Deutsch.
Dein Vater arbeitet.
Ich komme aus Nepal.

3. Ja/Nein Questions

For a yes/no question:

Conjugated verb + subject + ... ?

Examples practiced:

Arbeitest du nachmittags?
Lernt deine Schwester Deutsch?
Arbeitet dein Vater?
Kommst du aus Nepal?

Important:

The verb moves from position 2 to position 1.

Statement

Du kommst aus Nepal.

Question

Kommst du aus Nepal?

4. Time-First Word Order

When a time expression comes first, the conjugated verb remains in position 2.

Pattern:

Time + Verb + Subject + ...

Examples practiced:

Am Nachmittag arbeite ich.
Am Abend lernt deine Schwester Deutsch.
Am Morgen arbeitet dein Vater.
Am Morgen komme ich aus Nepal.

Important correction:

❌ Danach ich lerne Deutsch.
✅ Danach lerne ich Deutsch.

The subject does NOT have to come immediately after the time expression.

5. nicht — Negation

Today we specifically discussed where nicht goes.

The important lesson:

nicht does NOT always have one fixed position.

Its position depends on what is being negated.

Whole action

Examples:

Ich arbeite nicht.
Dein Vater arbeitet nicht.
Ich arbeite am Nachmittag nicht.

The whole action is being negated.

Negating a specific part

Example:

Ich lerne nicht Deutsch.

Here nicht is placed before Deutsch because the specific thing being negated is German.

Adjectives

nicht comes before the adjective:

Ich bin nicht müde.
Er ist nicht nett.

With will + infinitive

nicht can come before the infinitive phrase:

Ich will nicht arbeiten.
Ich will nicht Deutsch lernen.

Important lesson

Do not memorize:

"nicht always comes before the object."

Instead ask:

What exactly am I negating?

6. weil — Verb Goes to the End

This was one of the main lessons today.

Normal main clause:

Ich will Deutsch lernen.

With weil:

weil ich Deutsch lernen will.

Rule

weil + subject + ... + conjugated verb at the end

Examples practiced:

Ich arbeite am Nachmittag, weil ich Deutsch lernen will.
Deine Schwester lernt Deutsch, weil sie arbeiten will.
Dein Vater arbeitet, weil er arbeiten will.
Ich komme aus Nepal, weil ich in Nepal wohnen will.

7. will + Infinitive

We reinforced the structure:

will + infinitive

Normal sentence:

Ich will Deutsch lernen.
Ich will arbeiten.
Ich will in Nepal wohnen.

When used with weil, will moves to the end:

weil ich Deutsch lernen will
weil ich arbeiten will
weil ich in Nepal wohnen will

Important pattern

Normal:

Ich + will + infinitive

With weil:

weil + ich + infinitive + will

Example:

Ich will in Nepal wohnen.

↓

weil ich in Nepal wohnen will.

8. Pronoun Replacement

We practiced replacing nouns with pronouns.

Schwester → sie

Deine Schwester lernt Deutsch.

↓

Deine Schwester lernt Deutsch, weil sie arbeiten will.

Vater → er

Dein Vater arbeitet.

↓

Dein Vater arbeitet, weil er arbeiten will.

This reinforces:

NounPronoun
der Vaterer
die Schwestersie

9. dein / deine

We also reinforced the difference between:

dein Vater

and

deine Schwester

Because:

  • der Vater → dein Vater
  • die Schwester → deine Schwester

Examples:

Arbeitet dein Vater?
Lernt deine Schwester Deutsch?

10. kommen aus

We reinforced the important A1 expression:

kommen aus + country

Examples:

Ich komme aus Nepal.
Du kommst aus Nepal.
Er kommt aus Nepal.

Question:

Kommst du aus Nepal?

Negative:

Ich komme nicht aus Nepal.

11. wohnen in

We practiced:

wohnen in + place

Examples:

Ich wohne in Nepal.
Ich wohne in Kathmandu.

With will:

Ich will in Nepal wohnen.

With weil:

weil ich in Nepal wohnen will.

12. Full Transformation Drills Completed

Sentence 1

Base

Ich arbeite am Nachmittag.

Question

Arbeitest du nachmittags?

Negative

Ich arbeite nicht am Nachmittag.

Time-first

Am Nachmittag arbeite ich.

weil

Ich arbeite am Nachmittag, weil ich Deutsch lernen will.

Sentence 2

Base

Deine Schwester lernt Deutsch.

Question

Lernt deine Schwester Deutsch?

Negative

Deine Schwester lernt nicht Deutsch.

Time-first

Am Abend lernt deine Schwester Deutsch.

weil

Deine Schwester lernt Deutsch, weil sie arbeiten will.

Sentence 3

Base

Dein Vater arbeitet.

Question

Arbeitet dein Vater?

Negative

Dein Vater arbeitet nicht.

Time-first

Am Morgen arbeitet dein Vater.

weil

Dein Vater arbeitet, weil er arbeiten will.

Sentence 4

Base

Ich komme aus Nepal.

Question

Kommst du aus Nepal?

Negative

Ich komme nicht aus Nepal.

Time-first

Am Morgen komme ich aus Nepal.

weil

Ich komme aus Nepal, weil ich in Nepal wohnen will.

13. Important Correction From Today

A particularly useful correction:

You initially wrote:

❌ Ich lerne Deutsch weil ich will Deutsch sprechen.

The correct structure is:

✅ Ich lerne Deutsch, weil ich Deutsch sprechen will.

Why?

Because weil sends the conjugated verb to the end.

Normal:

Ich will Deutsch sprechen.

With weil:

weil ich Deutsch sprechen will.

14. What I Successfully Used Today

I successfully practiced:

  • ✅ Verb-second statements
  • ✅ Verb-first yes/no questions
  • ✅ Time-first inversion
  • ✅ nicht
  • ✅ weil
  • ✅ will + infinitive
  • ✅ Pronouns (er, sie)
  • ✅ dein / deine
  • ✅ kommen aus
  • ✅ wohnen in
  • ✅ German word order
  • ✅ Subject/verb agreement

15. Errors / Things to Watch

Error 1

❌ Lernst seine Schwester Deutsch?

Possible intended meaning was:

Does your sister learn German?

Correct:

✅ Lernt deine Schwester Deutsch?

Important:

deine Schwester = your sister · seine Schwester = his sister

Error 2

❌ Deine Schwester lernt Deutsch nicht.

For the intended simple meaning:

Your sister does not learn German.

Use:

✅ Deine Schwester lernt nicht Deutsch.

However, nicht can appear later depending on what exactly is being negated. We discussed this in detail.

Error 3

❌ Ich komme aus Nepal, weil ich wohnen in Nepal will.

Correct:

✅ Ich komme aus Nepal, weil ich in Nepal wohnen will.

The phrase:

in Nepal wohnen

stays together.

16. Current German Understanding

The most important new understanding from today's session is:

Main clause

Ich will Deutsch lernen.

weil clause

weil ich Deutsch lernen will.

Main clause

Ich arbeite am Nachmittag.

Time-first

Am Nachmittag arbeite ich.

Statement

Du kommst aus Nepal.

Question

Kommst du aus Nepal?

17. Speaking

Speaking practice was intentionally skipped today.

For now, learning will focus on:

  • Reading
  • Grammar
  • Writing/typing
  • Sentence formation
  • Vocabulary
  • Comprehension

Speaking exercises can be added later.

18. Study Rule

Continue following the user's main learning rule:

Use only vocabulary I already know unless a new word is explicitly introduced first.

Do not unexpectedly introduce unknown vocabulary in exercises.

If a new word is necessary:

Teach it first → explain it → give an example → then use it in exercises.

19. Current Position in Day 1

Completed:

  • ✅ 20 Day 1 nouns
  • ✅ 6 Day 1 verbs
  • ✅ Basic statements
  • ✅ Present-tense conjugation
  • ✅ Yes/No questions
  • ✅ W-questions
  • ✅ Time-first word order
  • ✅ Negation
  • ✅ mein / meine
  • ✅ sein / seine
  • ✅ will + infinitive
  • ✅ kommen aus
  • ✅ wohnen in
  • ✅ weil word order
  • ✅ Grammar/output transformation drill
  • ✅ Writing/typing practice

Skipped:

  • ⏸️ Speaking task

20. Next Learning Step

Continue with the Day 1 Reading section, but only after ensuring that every vocabulary item in the passage is already known or explicitly taught first.

Do NOT introduce unknown words without teaching them first.

Latest Session Summary

Date: August 13, 2026

Main achievement:

I can now transform a German statement into a question, negative, time-first sentence, and weil sentence while maintaining correct verb position.
